Today’s generation has been exposed to multiple types of technology from Playstations to the new iPhone. This generation has always been gifted the luxury of technology, and has never had to know a world without it.
Some say that they couldn’t go a day without it like senior Dylan Bish, who believes he has a strong addiction to technology that just keeps getting stronger as time goes on.
“I remember my first technology item,” Bish said. “I would play on my Playstation for days and play ‘The Legend of Dragoon.’”
It wasn’t long ago when society believed kids should experience more technology and is now in such a technological revolution that seems to be happening so fast that the amount of devices becoming available for kids is becoming outrageous.
“I used to bug my brother when I was little to play games with him and his friends,” Bish said. “They would give me a controller that wasn’t plugged in, but I was only two, I didn’t know the difference.”
The difference from 2000 to 2013 is society has made it possible for kids to be more engaged in technology and sell more products because society knows how to catch kids and/or parents attention. According to Scott Steinberg from CNN, almost every child from middle school to high school has a cell phone or some type of technology device.
“I just think that [technology] is not good enough but it’s only going to get better,” Bish said.
Video gaming, text messaging, video chatting or even social media websites are all ways that youth today are attaching themselves even more into technology. It isn’t uncommon to see people with phones in hand in today’s generation.
“I couldn’t survive without any type of computer because I do everything digitally,” Bish said. “I watch television, read books, play games, talk to friends and you can even read the news faster and easier.”
Educational programs such as English, Science and History lean upon Google and other websites such as Bing and Yahoo that search the internet for research on specific topics they might be looking for. There are certain types of programs such as Type to Learn that teach kids how to type and spell.
“I would probably freak out if there was absolutely no way possible for any technology to be used for that day,” Bish said. “I’m sure others would too because jobs all work around technology. They all depend on it and they would lose work if it wasn’t there any longer and the same with education.”
Technology will become more advanced for more years to come.
“I believe that technology will change but just more efficiently,” Bish said. “From faster phones to cars that run off of less gas.”
